Close-to-home water, read precisely

These waters reward observation more than distance. Shade lines, dock corners, creek mouths, riprap transitions and the first drop outside a flat are the recurring targets. Begin quiet and close; only lengthen casts after the near bank is covered.

At Falls Lake, a straight-running minnow and direct tie are useful when fish are roaming shallow. In lower light or wind-rippled water, spend deliberate time across known two-to-four-foot bass areas instead of constantly moving.

Start around points, protected pockets, shoreline shade and transitions near accessible banks. Try compact moving baits to locate fish, then slow down with a finesse worm.

Focus on wind-blown banks, dock or bridge influence, grass edges and visible wood. Downsize in pressured water and keep tackle appropriate for shore access.
